Portable Coolers

Reading time: 2 minutes

Keeping food or drink fresh is a must when traveling and enjoying camping or the countryside. Although we offer a refrigerator rental service at the campsite, we understand that during the trip something must be done to preserve our supplies.

Basic Portable Coolers

They stand out for being economical refrigerators, in addition to not needing any type of external energy source to operate. They are coolers with PEVA lining, creating an insulating thermoplastic environment to maintain the temperature of our food and beverages. They are usually bags of about 19 or 22 liters.

It is the typical cooler bag that we use to keep the temperature of our food and drinks cold when we go to the beach, for example. They are easy to transport and we can always carry one in the car to go to the supermarket or for traveling.

Electric Portable Coolers

They are coolers made of PVC and hard materials, with an insulating interior and electrical connection socket. They are plugged in via 12V, the typical car cigarette lighter socket or via a normal 230V wall socket.

As the boxes have a handle, they are very easy to transport. Sizes range from 24L to 40L.

Hybrid Portable Coolers

These portable coolers are physically similar to electric coolers, but have a different compressor and thermoelectricoperation system.

While carrying them in the car, caravan or motorhome, they can be plugged into the 12V cigarette lighter socket. They will operate continuously and keep food and beverages fresh.

They are not a substitute for a conventional refrigerator, but perform the basic function during the trip.

It can then be plugged into a conventional 230V outlet and will use the compressor to become a standard household refrigerator, but smaller in size.

Thermoelectric coolers

  • They cool depending on the ambient temperature. They can lower the temperature by about 20ºC with respect to the environment in which they are.
  • They heat and cool.
  • They consume electricity continuously, they do not start and stop like traditional compressor ones.
  • They make continuous noise.
  • They are more economical but consume more.
  • Less than 100 euros (depending on size)

Refrigerators refrigerators absorption

  • The cooling temperature depends on the ambient temperature. They cool about 30ºC below room temperature.
  • They continuously consume electricity or gas, whatever we have as power supply at that moment.
  • They do not emit noise, totally silent.
  • Refrigerators ideal for unplugged operation, only with gas.
  • They are usually mounted on campers / motorhomes.
  • Price about 400 and 500 euros.

Compressor coolers

  • The best in terms of performance, but also the most expensive.
  • They consume less when starting, cooling and stopping.
  • Discontinuous current consumption. Compressor is not permanently running
  • They emit noise while starting the compressor.
  • They can be around 700-800 euros.

With all this information about the types of portable coolers that exist in the market, the important thing is that you consider the budget you have and the need that the cooler should cover. The place where you are going to install it or transport it, amount of food it has to carry, energy it is going to consume (type and quantity), etc.

And finally, because of our commitment to the environment and the EU Ecolabel certification we have, we would like to remind you that when you buy an appliance you should look for A+ efficiency as a minimum. They are a little more expensive, but they pay for themselves in a very short time, saving you money in the medium term and helping to conserve the Planet.
