Commissioned by General Quintus Sertorius, this work was part of an intensive plan of the Romans to protect their lands from foreign enemies.

The main objective of the enclave, which today is more than 2000 years old, was to control the navigation of the Mediterranean area, in order to be prepared for any enemy attempt to conquer the Levantine area by sea.
